Avondale hosts Community Art Night | News

The City of Avondale Municipal Arts Committee, in collaboration with the Avondale Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department, invites residents and families to participate in an interactive art event at the Sam Garcia Western Avenue Library on Wednesday, November 5th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The free, family-friendly event will feature HYBYCOZO, a globally recognized art studio known for its geometric sculptures exploring light, shadow and science. Participants can view a portfolio of HYBYCOZO's large-scale installations and participate in a hands-on activity by drawing a shape that represents Avondale to them. The artists will use the drawings as inspiration for a new public artwork planned for the Old Town Avondale Plaza.

HYBYCOZO is the artistic collaboration between Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk. Her work draws on patterns from mathematics, nature and science to create immersive, illuminated sculptures. Her installations can be seen around the world and have been exhibited by institutions such as the Smithsonian and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

The new artwork inspired by this event will be part of the Old Town Avondale Plaza, a public space being developed at Western Avenue and Dysart Road. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the plaza will feature walking paths, decorative fencing, lighting, landscaping, signage and a large public art installation.

Community engagement is central to the development of the project, and the event gives residents the opportunity to help shape the art that will define the new space.
