Green Roofs for Healthy Cities is hosting the Raleigh Gray to Green Conference, taking place on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the JC Raulston Arboretum.
This day-long event brings together architects, landscape architects, policymakers and green infrastructure professionals to explore the latest innovations in sustainable urban design. Through expert-led presentations, panel discussions and case studies, participants will gain valuable insights into climate resilience, stormwater management and strategies to create healthier cities. Find out more about the event here.
As one of the fastest-growing cities in the Southeast, Raleigh faces the dual challenge of rising temperatures and heavier rainfall. Green infrastructure such as green roofs, urban tree canopies, permeable landscapes and bioswales play a critical role in managing stormwater, reducing the urban heat island effect and improving quality of life. The Raleigh Gray to Green conference will showcase how these solutions are implemented to protect natural waterways and create more resilient and vibrant communities.
Participants have the opportunity to earn up to 7 continuing education credits while working with industry leaders including:
- Eric Durnford, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities: Ten design tips to maximize stormwater management on green roofs
- David Hoffman, Hoffman Kindergarten: From Rainwater to Skyline: Plant-Based Strategies for Nature-Based Design
- Sarah Downing: Elevating Rooftop Garden Design: Cultivating Platforms for Belonging
- Neal Wisenbaker: Notes on care and participation: How to improve public acceptance of green infrastructure
- Kate Ancaya, PLA, GRP, and Emilio Ancaya, Living Roofs Inc.: 20 years of green roof planning and construction: Regional realities, resilient strategies and the path into the future
- Anna Ahern, Living Roofs Inc.: From concept to crane: expert planning and delivery with landscape-to-structure professionals
- Becca Turbeville, Soprema USA: The forgotten space between the green roof: waterproofing
- Joshua Robinson: Hurricane Helene Retrospective: River Restoration in Western North Carolina
The Raleigh Gray to Green Conference is a valuable opportunity for networking, professional development, and promoting the movement toward healthier, more climate-resilient cities.
