Designed by Frank Gehry, the project will include a 1,000-seat concert hall, a smaller 100-seat theater and several studios for classes and rehearsals. The larger venue will be named after the project's primary donors, Terri and Jerry Kohl.

On the outside, plans call for a rooftop garden and a publicly accessible garden accessed from Hill Street – spaces that will serve as outdoor venues for performances, receptions and other types of events.

The Colburn Center is also the latest in a series of additions to the Bunker Hill area that have emerged over the past decade, including Grand Park, The Emerson Apartment Tower And The wide ones The contemporary art museum, which is also in the midst of expansion.
