When autumn colors climax in the center of Pennsylvania, a local photographer shows the best view of Hershey – from the trips to the Rolling Hills
Hershey, Pa. -When the leaves begin to change, the landscape of Central -Pennsylvania turns into a lively mixture of red, oranges and gold mixtures.
For photographer John Martin, it is the best time of the year to take his camera and the way outside.
“The change in the seasons and the change of leaves have always been a cool thing in my life since my little lifespan,” said Martin. “It's just a really good thing to be out here and see that this happens every year.”
Martin spends the autumn months of searching for a variety of close-ups to wide scenic prospects.
“That zooms in much further than this lens,” he said. “And what this lens actually does is that it is so wide for them.”
And for Martin, autumn is the perfect season to find it.
“You get the mountain in the background and you will turn these colors,” he said. “It's just a nice landscape scene.”
While the changing leaves provide breathtaking backdrops, Martin also likes to catch the fun at Hersheypark.
“I like to grab and see how many people actually ride with their hands,” he said. “I love it when I get a full car and the hands of everyone are.”
Beyond the trips, it is the view around you that really catches his eye.
“The fact that they have the mountains in the background, surrounded by trees – especially when they turn in autumn – it really creates this wonderful composition of the color,” said Martin. “And messed between the Hershey sightseeing.”
Martin comes from West Pennsylvania, said he had found a new appreciation for the season since moving to South Central Pa.
“It is certainly one of my favorite places in the city,” he said.
One of these places offers a perfect viewpoint for the legendary architecture of Hershey.
“If I can get a wide shot to snap both the Hotel Hershey and the Catherine Hall – because both are only beautiful buildings that are sitting on the city, everything is looking at everything,” said Martin.
The combination of autumn color and long golden lighting lets him come back year after year.
“Autumn really gives you the big color in the background with the leaves and in the long golden hour that is always a plus,” he said.
And sometimes he also forgets where he stands.
“You have all of these different color combinations at once,” said Martin. “It is probably the best week of the year to take photos – because you will never get it again.”
For Martin, the goal is easy: pause people.
“You know, it lets you scroll and you look at it a bit and you go: 'It's a decent picture',” he said. “That is what I want somehow.”
