Bristol, Tenn. (WJHL) – The tape was cut on Friday on a new Seedeck in Steele Creek Park in Bristol, Tennessee.
The new deck is used for fishing, filming, concerts and other events in the park.
Park Management said the deck replaces the former amphitheater that had fallen into disrepair.
Members of the Twin City Civitan Club built the new deck and were in the park on Friday to celebrate its opening.
“We have been watching this old deck for a few years,” said David Shumaker from Twin City Civitan Club. “We took it over as a Civitan project because someone had to do it and we rebuilt it. It is a great opportunity. We already had a few weddings out here. It is a great place for people to fish.”
Shumaker said the deck was accessible, so that anglers who are limited to wheelchairs can still have a place from which they can be poured.
“We have been working on it since the very early spring,” said Shumaker. “The majority of the work they don't even see is here. We had to support all the original beams. It is now a better deck than ever when it was rebuilt.”
The building materials for the project were provided by Lowe's Home improvement on the volunteer parking kWay at a reduced price.
