Hancock, me. (WLUC) – Almost a year after the opening of his new stores, a company based in Hancock added something new to its exterior.
The Keweenaw Coop has completed the construction of a local plant garden outdoors. It is located right in front of the main entrance to the shop front. The business hopes that the Quincy Street gives additional beauty and at the same time supports pollinators.
“It's more of an ornamental garden,” said co-op-general manager Curt Webb. “We planned to make an rain garden … We didn't quite come with a rock garden regarding the engineering, but instead we decided to go in the same direction.”
The cooperative worked with three groups to create the garden: Richardson Landscape Design, the group Keweenaw Wild One and the invasive species management area of Keweenaw.
“At the moment it looks pretty economical out there, but this is a month and a half of which it is available,” continued Webb. “Next year will look better, but you will say in the second year after plants when it really comes available and you see the full beauty and the entire spectrum of what we have planted.”
According to WebB, there are no plans to expand the garden, but that more plants are added if necessary.
