YATES COUNTY, N.Y. — An 8-year-old boy died Sunday in Yates County after falling through ice into a pond.
According to the Yates County Sheriff's Office, this happened just before 1:30 p.m. in the town of Milo on Bath Road near Baker Road. After receiving a call that someone had fallen through the ice, Penn Yan firefighters wearing cold water rescue suits went into the pond and pulled the boy out.
First responders administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation and took the boy to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, where he died late Sunday afternoon. Officials have not yet released the boy's name and are still investigating.
First responders on scene included New York State Police and the Branchport Fire Department dive team.
