Collector calls for green protocol in government offices | Thiruvananthapuram News

T'puram: District Collector Anu Kumari has issued a strict directive requiring all government offices in the district to comply Green protocol to start the assembly Waste management problems. The policy was announced during the district development committee meeting held at the community conference hall on Saturday.
The collector also stressed the urgency of implementing eco-friendly practices by December 31. Observing the accumulation of solid waste in government offices, the collector directed officials to ensure immediate compliance with green protocol.
It also expressed concerns about the discharge of significant amounts of waste into the Killi River, particularly from nearby temporary facilities, and called for immediate action to clean up the river. “Unregulated waste disposal in Killi River poses a serious risk to the environment and public health. Immediate measures must be taken to address this issue and ensure its long-term prevention,” the Collector told the concerned officials during the meeting.
Other important issues discussed at the meeting included progress of restoration work at Akkulam Lake, completion of renovation work on Parvathy Puthanar and Amayizhanjan canals and digital surveying techniques in Vamanapuram, Pangode and Kallara villages.
Particular attention was paid to the waste issue in the Neyyar River, which is an important source for numerous drinking water projects in the district. The district collector directed officials to identify sources of pollution near Neyyar and take appropriate measures to contain the contamination.
“Ensuring clean drinking water for the district must remain a top priority. All sources of pollution must be quickly identified and eliminated,” she added in the meeting. The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate Vineeth TK, District Planning Officer VS Biju, representatives of MPs and MLAs and officials from various departments.
