Imphal: The governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, conducted talks with the representatives of the United Naga Council (UNC) in connection with the ongoing border fences and scrap of the Freiaweg regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border.
According to an official, a delegation from the UNC under the direction of its President NG Lorho shared their views and concerns about matters in connection with the FMR and border fences. The members of the Naga Apex body also asked the governor to accept the matter with the Indian government.
The governor assured them that the matter has already been accepted with the Ministry of the Interior and appealed to the members of the Council to maintain peace and reluctance while the constructive dialogue continues.
Sumant Singh, secretary of the governor, and N Ashok Kumar, Commissioner (Heim), government of Manipur was also on the board.
After meeting after the meeting, the UNC President Lorho spoke that the governor gave a patient hearing and assured them that the matter was already in the center.
Both parties have agreed to convene the next round of the talks within three days, he said.
“It has been long enough that we have reported our problems with the Indian government, but to this day they have not addressed the matter. Our main request is that the scrap of the Freiweg Regime (FMR) should be reinstalled and that the construction of border fences along the Naga home is not acceptable for the Nagas.
The UNC President also announced that the construction of border fences already at the border pillar. 80 to 81, about 10 km along the Naga areas despite the strong opposition of the Naga community.
The UNC, an APEX naga in the state, has called for the border fences to stop along the Naga home country and the lifting of the FMR. The UNC served the government of India and Manipur in relation to the matter for which it expired on August 12, a 20-day ultimatum. The Naga body also warned of the start of an indefinite economic blockage along the national highways in the Naga areas if its demands are not met.
The other UNC delegates took part in the meeting to the Vice President N Gonmei Poujan, Secretary General Vareiyo Shatsang, Information and Advertising Secretary H. (Ansam) President Than Angteshang Maram and Ansam Secretary General Isaac Charenamei.
