The landscape architecture is an often overlooked area of design, Martin Knight and Claire Stokoe; And while in recent years a focus on climate and biodiversity has developed and nature has increasingly moved into the spotlight.
“An area that is less viewed that has great potential focuses on an agenda for restraint, reuse and recycling for existing landscapes and in question whether the exchange of rooms, built elements and plants is the right approach, only to provide a certain vision for a place. Can these elements for a place not be integrated into the fabric of the landscape solution? Are they not part of the? Established character and the material memory of location?

Meet Studio Knight Stokoe
Knight and Stokoe were co -founders of their namesake, the small but dynamic landscape architecture and the urban design practice in the southwest of England in 2022. With the aim of staying boutique and nimble, the studio also follows in its projects in order to evaluate quality and craft.
In this way you can also be practically involved in every project: “If you work with us, you will always work directly with Martin or Claire, which we have found that customers and employees really react positively,” they say. The B -Corp certification of the studio is further proof of its commitment to accountability and sustainable practice. They are missing: “In our core, we are guided by three interconnected principles: resilience, regeneration and empathy. We create landscapes that harmonize society and nature and create places that can adapt to challenges and at the same time actively improve the environments in which they live. '

Her first completed project, a revitalized brutalist garden in the Mountbatten House in Basingstoke, not only embodies these values perfectly, but was also a pioneering project for the young company. In the task, the reinterpretation of the registered parking and garden gardens for today's needs was described. It required a fine adaptation of the existing environment and respected designer James Russell's original vision of the 1970s for the site.
As a result, the program achieved broad recognition as well as outstanding Breameam certification, which is seamlessly Knight and Stokoes 'craft to high tech', which favors a balance between art and functionality. “Without question, it was transformative to be appointed for the technical construction and delivery of systems. It was a great vote of trust in the developer and contractor in our skills as a designer and as a company,” they say.

Since its completion, the studio has become strength. It has an ongoing tour in Plant where the directors lead the foundation of its gardens over time (“it is very rare to secure such a role,” they mark); It is currently involved in the retrofitting and reuse of a listed building at the harbor at the harbor on the Canon Wharf in Bristol, which creates new outdoor rooms. And it also works on a new micro-urban forest school in the heart of Westminster, London. These and other projects in Great Britain, from private gardens to commercial and public spaces, ensure an exciting future for young practice.
