AI could reduce more greenhouse gas emissions than it produces – if it is used responsibly in the most environmentally harmful sectors in the world.
This is the central finding of new research by London School of Economics (LSE) and the Advice SystemIQ, which examines how AI can change electricity, transport and food sectors- but the underlying reality is that the potential could have pressure on the infrastructure of the data center.
According to the study, AI technologies could help to avoid up to 5.4 gigatonnes (GT) of CO₂ equivalent emissions per year by 2035.
Even if the increased power consumption of data centers that are required for the operation and training of advanced models, the net effects could continue to be positive.
