The plans also include a café and a community hub
A “characteristic building” that is planned in front of the Cabot Circus parking lot is a 28-story block of accommodation. The owners of the shopping center presented further details and drawings of the massive landmark, which would dominate the view if people come from the M32 to the Bristol city center.
The designs published on August 7 showed plans for the huge octagonal tower, the shop window of the planned Cabot Gate renovation, which is to be built on one side of the entrance to the main car park of the shopping center on land.
According to documents, which have been presented to the city council of Bristol since then, the tower could accommodate up to 500 students. Another building on the opposite side of the entrance is said to be eight floors high and can be used for even more student accommodation or for a hotel with 150 beds or as a “co -living” area.
Hammerson, who belongs to the shopping center in a joint venture of 50:50 with global investment giants Axa in, wants to change the “unused” space in front of the Cabot Circus parking lot. Historical England has expressed concerns about the extent of the proposal.
The location of the proposed development is currently mainly occupied by Enterprise Car rent. The Brownfield website had previously had a building permit for offices, which has fallen into disrepair.
In addition to the two main buildings, Hammerson also suggests building a new common room and a café.
On the site, a new pedestrian route together with a common hiking and bike track is proposed to replace the existing sidewalk along Neufundland Way. Planting and landscaping would deliver a green “buffer” between road traffic and pedestrians and cyclists.
A spokesman for Hammerson said: “In close cooperation with the city council of Bristol about his ambitions for the city center, we have set a long -term vision to develop our wider estate, including free time experiences, living space and work areas as well as more cultural common uses.”
The buildings are designed by the award -winning architect of Bristol, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. If the Cabot Gate plans were allowed, Central Bristol would give another huge student tower. In the heart of the nearby Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone there is currently a development with 706 rooms.
Another huge new development is also in St. Philips next to the things. Bristol Live readers previously expressed their objection to the large number of new student buildings in the whole city that are approved in an ongoing housing crisis.
Bristol University is in the middle of the construction of a new company Campus of 500 million GBP on the site of the former Royal Mail Sorts Office near Temple Meads. The campus is to be opened in good time for the beginning of the academic year 2026/2027.
Historical England has already expressed its concerns about the effects of the scope of the larger Cabot Gate building on nearby cultural heritage sites, including the listed St. Pauls Church and the surrounding class 1.
“From the information given, we are concerned that the historical environment can have a significant impact”, a letter to the advice of the inspector of historical buildings and areas that Stephen Guy read. “Especially in view of the proposed maximum of a 28-story building on the site, this should have different effects on the historical environment, in particular the attitude of many high-grade cultural heritage.”
In addition to the proposed development in front of the parking lot, Hammerson, the area of the Quäup -Friars with a large health center in the Philadelphia Street One, plans to revise potential addition.
A huge new M&S will also be opened in autumn in the three -story location, which was formerly occupied by House of Fraser and a new Odeon follows in early 2026.
“Our plans already include a significant investment in Quäerker brothers with a new public area, a potential health center and a cultural event location,” said the Hammerson spokesman. “The plans are part of our continuous engagement for the city center of Bristol and follow an investment program in Cabot Circus.”
“This includes the introduction of large new leisure, food and beverage supplements such as King Pins Bowl and Treetop Golf as well as the transformation arrival of M&S later this year and Odeon in early 2026. It also fits our vision to curate a sum, a multiple in the hearts of Bristol.”
Hammerson has invited the public to leave their feedback on the proposed parking lot development on their website. https://cabotgateredevelopment.co.uk/.
You will also organize a webinar on August 19 and 6.30 p.m. in which your team explains the proposal more precisely and answer questions. Registration for the webinar is also available on the website.
