As part of its competition, the city of Bellevue spends 700 free trees.
The program is a partnership with 300 trees and Amazon, which leads to the distribution of free trees to residents and community organizations in the region, according to an release of the city. For applicants, nine tree species are available to meet the needs of each recipient and ensure that the tree fits into the room. The options include Coast Redwood, Bigleaf Maple and Southern Magnolia.
After completing an application via the city's website, the applicant receives a construction application date and can select one of the species based on the preferences or the available options. In addition to the tree itself, the recipients also receive water bags, mulch and plant instructions for adequate care.
The urban program has given away more than 3,200 trees since it was founded, and Bellevue achieved its goal in 2021 to cover 40% trees cover, according to the press release. This year, the program hopes to continue to target areas in the city, which would benefit most from the additional coverage of canopy and would work towards the reduction of uneven areas.
Those who are interested in the application can do so here. The application remains until August 26 or until all trees claimed.
