Dorn Bridge completed, but the finishing touches remain

The Thorn Bridge remains closed in the northwest of El Paso! That is what drives a viewer crazy this week.

KFOX14 received an e -mail from the viewer Randy A. asked why the Thorn Bridge was not open.

“The Thorn overpass should be open by spring 2025, we are in the summer of 2025 and nothing has changed?”

Jennifer Wright, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), explains, while the bridge itself is complete, additional work is required before it can be opened for traffic.

“The Thorn Bridge was completed this spring, but it is not yet ready for traffic because we are still rebuilding the crossings of the approaches there,” said Wright. “We have to install traffic signals. We still have decorative fences that have to go up and roam. So there is still a lot of work that can still be done.”

The construction is part of the I-10 expansion west project, which aims to expand the motorway from four to six lanes and to extend from Mesa Street to New Mexico State Line.

Wright said that the project is expected to be completed in autumn, but the drivers can still be exposed to closures around Thorn in the course of the Artcraft project.
