The location of the former Vita Cortex factory near the Kinsale RD is the subject of an application for 170 houses in four tower blocks that lie from four to nine floors.
The location, the location for one of the longest-running industrial disputes in the history of the state in 2011 between the Kinsale RD and the Pearse.
The proposed development also includes a crib, a café and a management office on the ground floor of Block Three and four retail units on the public square on the ground floor.
The developer also applies for the admission of 514 bicycle parking spaces in four bicycle sheds, which would be either within the frame or in the ground on the ground floor.

The application also requests permission to include 82 parking spaces used together, including 13 charging points for electric vehicles and six wheelchair users, three of those for electric vehicles.
Other characteristics associated with it are ESB conversions, streets, green roofs and solar collectors. There are also new access points for vehicles and pedestrians from Kinsale RD and Pearse RD as well as garbage bins.
The proposed development will also facilitate the future expansion of BusConnects along the Kinsale RD.
In 2011, the Vita Cortex Factory, in which foam for furniture and packaging was produced, was the scene of a peaceful 160-day-sit-in protest of workers who were released shortly before Christmas. The dispute led to nationwide protests, a television call and was the subject of debates in Dáil Éireann. Finally, a resolution for an unknown sum was reached.
