Pichai Chirathivat (center), Executive Director of Central Group, says that CPN has strengthened its sustainable real estate management with the introduction of Central Pattana Green Growth, the Decarbonization and continuation of the Better Futures Year 4 with the nationwide “Re” -Ly lifestyle.
Set-Listed Central Pattana (CPN) plans to invest 10 billion baht in sustainability programs from 2025 to 2029. 600 million baht will be assigned this year by Central Pattana Green, his newly founded subsidiary, Green Initiatives this year.
Naparat Sriwanvit, Chief Finance Officer and President of Hotel and Office at CPN, said that the five -year investment was a significant increase compared to 5 billion baht, which the company has spent on social development in the past ten years.
“The majority of these new investments are based on the development of new projects and the renovation of existing properties to fulfill green building standard,” she said.
CPN founded the central Pattana Green growth in 2024 to serve as the main driver of its Green Initiatives, starting with the production of clean energy. The company would like to achieve at least 70 megawatts of clean energy capacity by the end of 2025.
In 2024, the subsidiary supported the installation of solar roofs in the real estate of CPN, including shopping centers, office buildings, hotels and residential projects, and will continue this year.
At the moment, 60% of CPN real estate, especially shopping centers as well as some office buildings, hotels and common areas in residential projects, are equipped with sun roofs and create a combined capacity of 68 MW.
The 600 million-baht-green budget for this year is used to install solar roofs to the remaining 40%, with the final property being completed in 2026.
The next task for Central Pattana Green Growth is to encourage the residents of the company's residential projects to install sun roofs according to the installations in the public areas of each project.
“We will look for new technologies and solutions to increase the use of clean energy, reduce energy consumption and increase energy efficiency in order to lower energy consumption by 5-10%,” added Ms. Naparat.
In order to ensure long -term sustainability, the subsidiary must also be profitable, said Uthaiwan Anuchitanukul, CPN's head of excellence and sustainable development.
As a supply company, the income from the provision of solutions for clean energy and energy efficiency will take place.
Ms. Uthaiwan said that the subsidiary would support CPN in achieving its annual sustainability goals and the achievement of net zero emissions by 2050, with the focus on reducing energy consumption and improvement in waste management.
“The splitting of Central Pattana Green Growth shows the strong commitment of CPN for sustainability and leads it beyond an internal unit,” said Ms. Naparat. “In the future, the subsidiary will also serve as a vehicle for investing with tech partners if there are mandatory options.”
Ms. Naparat added that the subsidiary will also play a role in securing a larger share of green loans, which will make up 60-70% of the total borrowing in the next five years, compared to around a third.
CPN has secured around 20 billion baht in green loans, from a total output of 60 billion baht, to support its total investment plan of 120 billion baht from 2025 to 2029.
According to Ms. Naparat, green loans offer a lower cost of funds at around 0.1 to 0.2 percentage points below the average rate of CPN of 3%. However, securing these loans is not easy because a clear framework and a variety of sustainability initiatives are required.
Such an initiative is a better future that CPN will organize for the fourth year in a row.
The campaign contains a roadshow that promotes a lifestyle for renewable energies called “Re” in its shopping centers in six provinces. This will report between May 19 and June 20 in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan, Nakhon Ratchasima and Chanthaburi. The final event takes place in Central Krabi, the country's first sustainable mall, which will open in October this year.
