Cambium Carbon's Smart Wood is named Best Invention of 2024 by TIME

WASHINGTON – TIME magazine included Cambium Carbon's Carbon Smart Wood in its list of the best inventions of 2024.

The company focuses on using fallen trees in urban areas to create valuable products while reinvesting proceeds into reforestation initiatives.

According to Cambium's website. “We target wood affected by the four Ds: disease, decay, disaster and development. Instead of the wood ending up in landfills, we work with local arborists and millers to salvage and recycle it. This process creates a carbon-negative material. With Carbon Smart Wood we don't just change materials; We are changing mindsets and building for the future.”

Cambium lists five different end uses for Carbon Smart Wood: decking, siding, fencing, woodwork and lumber. also for furniture. In addition to Carbon Smart Wood, Cambium offers thermally modified Carbon Smart Wood in red oak, sycamore maple, pine and other species.

By 2023, Cambium reported diversion of 3,377 tons of CO2 emissions and deforestation of 1.3 million board feet of Carbon Smart Wood.
