Grand Traverse County, Michigan (WPBN/WGTU) – To celebrate Arbor Day, the members of the municipality in Traverse have started a project to create an edible landscape, starting with the planting of a smooth service berry tree.
Students of the Green Spire High School took part in the event, which was held in the Grand Traverse Area Children's Garden, where they helped to plant the tree donated by the Friendly Garden Club.
The serviceberry tree described as a keystone plant is expected to play a crucial role in the restoration of healthy ecosystems by providing food and accommodation for different types.
Berries will produce birds and wild animals.
Sarah Kuschell, managing director of the Grand Traverse Area Children's Garden, emphasized the mutual advantages of the project. “One of the most interesting things is that this smooth service berry tree, which serves 100 different ways and has edible berries, will also enable us to do a service. Right?
Although the service berry tree is now small, it has the potential to grow up to 25 feet, which contributes significantly to the local ecosystem.
