Bindloss Dawes extends the Victorian House in Stoke Newington | News

Bindloss Dawes has completed the renovation of a Victorian house in Stoke Newington, London, in the Lordship Park Conservation Area. The property was originally bought as a development project by customers Emma Dahlman and Nick Illston and has developed into a long -term residence and requires comprehensive cooperation to address the existing structural problems.

The back of the house has presented challenges due to historical bomb damage and tree root reduction, which requires significant intervention.

The practice introduced a cross -shaped reinforced concrete structure in the core of the building to stabilize the back wall. The rear facade now has brick surfaces that open in a large garden, with a step terrace made of floating concrete and brick that turn into the outer space.

Buff-toned Wienerberger stones were used to maintain the visual consistency with the original Victorian facades.

Dahlman actively contributed to the material selection and emphasized natural and structural elements. The reform kitchen serves as a central center and reflects the customer's request for a room that is beneficial for family connections and social assemblies. The combination of wood and concrete was selected to reflect on influences, which were extended by Sri Lanka Brutalism until the middle of the century modernism and alleviated by Dahlman's Nordic palette.

The thermal mass of the concrete regulates the temperature and supports open life all year round.

The exposed wooden roof structure within the core areas offers natural light and warmth and matches the preference of customers for a comfortable, private space. Natural oak and non -selected brass goods define the material palette, which naturally ages. The bedrooms and bathrooms have continued this approach with soft, subdued textures.

The garden design contrasts the green leaves with the stone and concrete terrace, whereby the material approach is emphasized. Structural solutions and material options have been prioritized to create a home that is tailored to the lifestyle of the customers.
