Security goal from plans for the East Allentown apartment complex

The developer of a proposed apartment complex in East Allentown returned to the city's planning commission on Tuesday with a revised sketch plan.

Manny Makhoul would like to record six buildings with 170 units on 16.85 forest tomorrow, which are located in a gap between the sections of the East Turner Street near the Hannover Avenue. The property is about a quarter mile from the Northhridge location in the former Allentown State Hospital.

Last month Makhoul presented a plan for the location with 180 units. It included a gated entrance from the Turner Street, which marked negative comments from Commissioners.

The revised plan eliminates the security goal and enables people to drive through the complex, and the access of the sidewalk was extended to the streets Irving and Graham. One of the buildings was shrunk by 30 to 20 apartments so that an entrance without a cul -de -sac could reach for the complex.

Despite the changes, the chairman of the Commission, Christian Brown, was annoyed by trees for the project.

“I think it's a real shame that what happened, without any kind of approval or permits, has happened,” said Brown.

Since it was a sketch plan, no vote on the project was given in the near future, and a preliminary plan is presented to the Commission.
