A homeowner recently received rave reviews on the r/TinyHouses subreddit after posting photos of his tiny house on wheels complete with a rooftop patio.
“I have dreamed about this design for years. It felt so good to bring him to life. I love the technical challenges of designing small spaces,” the poster wrote. “Feel free to ask questions. I hope I can inspire others to achieve whatever is in their minds.”
The attached photos show a very chic interior with some very original lamps made of natural wood. The highlight is of course the roof terrace, which is certainly a clever way to make the most of the limited space. Maybe this is the start of a trend.
“Honest question, how does it work? [the roof deck] “Can you stand the rain?” one commentator wondered. “Wouldn’t the design somehow collect it in the middle of the roof where the patio is?” Or did you put in drainage etc so rain would collect there?”
“Handles it just fine,” the original poster replied. “It actually drains left and right (or rather to the gutter above the patio door and back in the opposite direction too). The centerline of the roof is raised about 1.5 inches over 5 feet. I also have a drainage layer in the standing part of the roof. I have plans to add a rain catchment area in the future.
Proponents of tiny home living like to tout the benefits of a minimalist lifestyle, which many practitioners say gives them mental clarity. It is also good for the environment and our planet to live in a way that uses as few resources as possible.
The other members of the subreddit couldn't praise this inventive and stylish little house enough.
“This gives me a real houseboat vibe and I love it,” one commenter wrote, while another said it was “stunning!”
“This looks like the most comfortable home I've ever seen. Nice brother,” praised another.
