The substructure packages for two bridge projects in Jasper County were approved by the board of directors at the beginning of this month. In cooperation with the already approved development areas from last year, Jasper County will share the costs of one of these bridges with Marshall County.
The bridges are classified as bridge C05 and bridge K15. The former is located in North 115th Avenue West about 1.1 miles west of the East 12th Street North and crosses Snipe Creek. The latter is located in the South 36th Avenue East 0.8 miles east of the Highway T-28 and crosses Sugar Creek.
District engineer Michael Frietsch said that Brücke C05 was built in 1921 and was currently a tensioned bridge in the pony truss style. It is estimated that less than six years of life are left. It is replaced by an 80-foot steel beam bridge with a rampant steel jet bridge with a reinforced concrete deck via steel back wall abutment.
“We don't really want to stick to our riveted pony truss bridges longer,” said Frietsch. “… day work is used to build the new bridge. The materials that we leave here on site, and then we place those under contract to keep us under the necessary horizontal infrastructure. “
The limit is currently set to $ 115,000. Both substructure packages were well under this threshold. The substructure package is mainly the steel wall abutments. In August 2024, Jasper County already searched and approved offers from Oden Enterprises for the super structure package for $ 122,364.
Marshall County will accept half of the costs for the Bridge C05 project.
Jasper County's Supervisor's board of directors, February 4, progressed with a memorandum of Understanding with the neighbor County.
Frietsch said bridge K15 was built in 1979 and was a Stahl-I-Beam bridge over wooden backwall abutments. In 2023, the remaining lifespan was less than two years. It is also replaced by an 80-foot steel jet bridge with a reinforced, cast concrete deck, which is set via steel back wall.
“The street, I will be honest, his traffic is not very high,” said Frietsch. “But if you start which routes we have from T-38 East to Poweshiek County, there are not many options … Although it is on a lower traffic payment, we really just have to replace (it) so that we do not attract. I cause enormous detours. “
Oden Enterprises submitted the winning bids for the substructure packages for both bridges. The Supervisory Board voted 3-0 for the Treaty of the Bridge C05 substructure contract for $ 72,178.02 and the substructure package of the bridge K15 for $ 63,650.02.
The engineer estimated the substructure packages for both bridges at $ 130,776. Two years ago, the substructure offer for the S23 bridge was $ 92,733.16. Frietsch stated that steel prices seem to be stable or tendency. In addition, soil information that was collected before the bides helped to optimize the stacking lengths.
The total costs for the structure and substructure steel for the bridge C05 are now $ 194,542.70. The district prompted $ 30,000 for its part of the daily work.
The total costs for the structure and substructure steel for the K15 bridge are now $ 186,014.70. The district prepared $ 60,000 for daily work.
